                 나무들 /조이스 킬머

 

 

 나무처럼 사랑스런 시를 볼 수는

결코 없으리라고 생각한다네.

 

단물 흐르는 대지의 젓가슴에

굶주린 입술을 대고 있는 나무,

 

종일 잎이 무성한 팔을 들어

하나님께 기도드리는 나무,

여름에 자신의 머리위에

울새 둥지를 허락하는 나무,

 

가슴엔 눈이 쌓이지만

비와 친밀하게 사는 나무,

 

시는 나와 같은 바보들이 짓지만

나무는 오직 하나님이 만드실 수 있다네.

I think that I shall never see

A poem lovely as tree.

 

A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed

Against the earth's sweet-flowing breast :

 

A tree that looks at God all day,

And lifts her leafy arms to pray :

 

A tree that may in summer wear

A nest of robins in her hair :

 

Upon whose bosom snow has lain :

Who intimately lives with rain.

 

Poems are made by fools like me,

But only God can make a tree.
